I seek refuge in Allah, the Hearer and Knower, from the devil, accursed. In the Name of Allah, the Merciful and the Compassionate. In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate and Merciful (RE, pp 53-54, OE, p. 43)
Al-istiādh ("I seek refuge in Allah..") is prescribed by the Quranic verse, And should a temptation from Satan provoke you, seek refuge in Allah. Truly He is Hearing, Knowing [7:200] It is also recorded in Ibn Sunni’s ʿAmal al-Yawm wa’l-Layl that according to Anas (R), the Prophet (S) said, “He who says upon waking in the morning,‘I seek refuge in Allah, the Hearer and Knower, from Satan the accursed,’ will be protected from Satan until the evening.”
Al-Basmala ("In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful"). The Prophet (S) said, "Every matter of importance that does begin in the Name of God is cut off." And Sayyidna Ali (may Allah ennoble his face) said, "If I wanted to speak just of the Ba of bismillah, I could load a thousand camels (with its explanation)." Also, Imam Ibn Abi Hatim said in his tafsir that 'Uthman ibn 'Affan asked the Messenger of Alla (S) about Bismilllah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim and he answered (S), "It is one of the Names of Allah and what is between it and the Greatest Name is like what is between black and white on an eye in proximity."
Al-Hawqala ("There is no strength nor power but through Allah") About this formula, the Prophet (S) is reported to have asked Abu Musā (R), "Shall I direct you of one of the treasures of Paradise?” He said, “By all means!” He said, “There is no strength nor power but through Allah.” And according to Abu Hurayra, he said (S), “Be abundant in saying ‘There is no strength nor power but through Allah for it is one of the treasures of Paradise.’” In al-Nawawi’s al-Adhkār, according to ʿAlī (may Allah enoble his face) the Messenger of Allah (S) said, “O Alī, shall I not teach you some words to say if you fall into a disaster?” He said, “By all means, may Allah make me your ransom.” He said, “When you fall into a disaster, say ‘In the Name of Allah the Most Merciful and Compassionate, there is no strength nor power but by Allah the Exalted and Mighty,’ and Allah Most High will turn away from you many types of tribulation."
