We will be adding to this section explanatory comments on passages from the wird and the qasidas. The abbreviations RE and OE refer to pages in the Revised Edition (Quilliam Press. 2022) and the older edition (Qasida Press, 2015).

Glory be to Allah and Praise... (RE, p. 54, OE, p. 48)

The Messenger of God (S) said, “That I might say, 'Glory be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is greater,' is more beloved to me than whatever the sun rises upon.” This is reported in Muslim, Bukhārī, and elsewhere, and in the sunnan of Nasā’ī, a ḥadīth states,“A man came to the Prophet () and said, ‘I cannot learn anything of the Qur’ān; teach me something that I can say instead.’" He said: ‘Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god except Allah, Allah is greater, and there is no power nor strength except by Allah, the Exalted and Mighty.’”

And in Muslim, a ḥadīth states, “The most excellent words after the Qur’ān are,‘Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god except Allah, Allah is greater.' ”
